Airtel Money and Professional Insurance Corporation Zambia (PICZ) have launched a partnership that delivers insurance services directly to users’ mobile phones.
With support from Inshuwa Technologies, the initiative was unveiled in Lusaka yesterday at a high-profile event attended by the Minister of Technology and Science, Felix Mutati.
“This partnership is proof of how technology can break down barriers and extend critical services to every citizen, no matter where they live,” said Mutati.
Through the Airtel Money platform, users can now purchase insurance, pay premiums, and receive claim payouts instantly via mobile phones.
Andrew Chuma, Airtel Money Country Director, said delivering insurance to customers’ fingertips eliminates the traditional hurdles of travel, paperwork, and long processing times.
“This isn’t just about technology, it’s about people. Whether you're in Lusaka or Kaputa, Shangombo or Choma, our goal is to put financial protection right in your hands,” said Chuma.
PICZ’s Managing Director, Moses Siame, called the partnership “transformative” and pivotal in redefining how insurance is accessed in Zambia.
“From today, insurance is no longer exclusive or complicated. It is mobile, simple, and for everyone. Our ambition is to insure 1 million Zambians by 2027 through this platform,” he added.
The first suite of products includes motor third-party insurance, comprehensive car insurance, local travel insurance and house insurance, all accessible nationwide.
Minister Mutati praised the initiative for supporting Zambia’s Vision 2030 and 8th National Development Plan by promoting financial inclusion and reducing vulnerability. “With services live wherever the Airtel network exists, even rural communities can now access insurance at their fingertips. Insurance is not for the privileged few; it’s a safety net for all,” he said.
