Airtel Malawi yesterday unveiled its 5G and Voice over Long-Term Evolution (VoLTE) services at a high-profile event held at the Bingu International Convention Centre in the country’s capital, Lilongwe.
The Minister of Information and Communication Technology, Shadric Namalomba, was present as guest of honour, underscoring government support for advancements in the telecommunications sector.
During his remarks, Aashish Dutt, MD, Airtel Malawi highlighted improvements brought by the newly introduced services. He said VoLTE brings an improved calling experience through clearer voice quality, reduced call set-up times, and the convenience of maintaining high-speed data use while on a voice call.
Namalomba described the launch as a major milestone that extends beyond the company itself, representing a strategic step in preparing Malawi for future technological demands.
Telekom Networks Malawi (TNM) became the first operator in the country to roll out 5G services, with its launch in July.
Airtel’s entry into the 5G space improves competition and is expected to accelerate the expansion of high-speed connectivity across the country.
