Airtel Kenya appoints new execs

Bharti Airtel has made two new significant appointments for its Kenyan operations.

According to the company,Topyster Muga and Venkateshwaran Ramakrishnan have been appointed as the new head of Airtel Money and finance director respectively.

Airtel Money is the telco’s mobile money solution in that country.

Muga is a graduate from Kenyatta University and holds a first class Honours Bachelor of science degree in Information Technology (IT).

Her experience in the telecoms industry spans over eight years.

Previously Muga was also the principal product development manager for M-PESA, Vodafone Group Services in the UK.

She joined Airtel Africa in 2010 as senior manager, group Value Added Services.

Meanwhile, Ramakrishnan who takes on the role of finance director, joined Airtel in India in 2006 as a financial reporting manager.

He holds a Bachelor’s degree in commerce from the University of Sir Sayatha Sayi.

He is a qualified chartered accountant and a member of the institute of Chartered Accountants of India.

Airtel Kenya chief executive officer, Adil El Youssefi said,“I am delighted to have Topyster and Venkat join our leadership team in Kenya."

"They both bring along unique individual qualities, diverse cross cultural and international experience that will add to the quality of our leadership team’s capability to better serve our customers,” El Youssefi commented on the appointments.
 
Airtel is Kenya’s second largest mobile operator with more than 5.2 million subscribers, according to statistics from the Communications Authority of Kenya (CA).
