Abia State has formed digital transformation collaboration with MTN Nigeria to promote technological innovation.
The agreement, signed in Umuahia, lays out a comprehensive plan to improve connectivity, governance, and economic growth via digital innovation.
MTN will expand broadband service across Abia, including rural areas, as part of the agreement, assuring continuous connectivity.
Civil servants will also benefit from a device ownership initiative, which will provide them with laptops, smartphones, and Wi-Fi devices in order to promote efficiency, transparency, and public service delivery throughout the state.
The agreement also includes plans to improve digital governance through cloud services and computing infrastructure, as well as the deployment of 4G and 5G networks in strategic locations including as Umuahia, Aba, and Ohafia.
As part of the agreement, a new Abia Digital Mall will be established to assist small businesses in growing through the use of digital tools, while an online marketplace will encourage e-governance and ecommerce.
Governor of Abia State, Alex Otti, applauded the initiative, describing it as a significant step towards building Abia a notable digital economy.
He emphasised the state's commitment to providing the necessary assistance for long-term success, notably in the areas of youth empowerment, governance, and economic competitiveness.
Dr. Karl Toriola, MTN's CEO, underlined the company's commitment to encouraging innovation and described the initiative as a combination of infrastructure investment, innovation, and public-private collaboration.

The project is expected to empower rural communities, boost productivity, and stimulate economic growth.
