Rwanda has distributed over 1770 laptops village leaders across the country to facilitate their daily office work.
Jean Claude Mugabo, the director of information communication technology (ICT) at the ministry of local government said that his department is under a directive to give executive secretaries both at sector and village levels to enable them file different reports required by different authorities and communication in general.
The laptops could be used by the village leaders to write reports, store information and communicate via the internet.
Mugabo said giving laptops to leaders, which forms part of the second phase of a handout, was in line with the Rwandan government’s vision 2020 of having an ICT knowledge populace in its development program.
“We intend to distribute more (than) 2148 laptops in the next third phase,” Mugabo said.
