Huawei's P8 gains market traction
Since is global launch in April, Huawei's P8 smartphone has received acclaim after being identified by the European Imaging and Sound Association (EISA) as the 'European Consumer Smartphone 2015 - 2016'.
This is the third year the ICT service and solutions provider has received the recognition. In 2013 and 2014 the company received the same award for its Ascend P6 and Ascend P7 respectively.
EISA lauded Huawei for delivering what it described as "improved camera performance and surprisingly high‐end craftsmanship that gives this affordable device a truly sophisticated appearance."
The organisation highlighted the P8's battery capacity, lens and HD display features, specifically.
In a press statement following the announcement Huawei paid tribute to the technical specifications of the device, mentioning its low-light camera, light painting facility, dual-antenna design and rapid switching technology.
"We are proud to be presented with this award for the third year in a row. We are committed to challenging the industry and revolutionising how a smartphone is used," said Consumer Business Group chief marketing officer Glory Zhang on behalf of the 28-year-old company.
The P8 was launched in South Africa in early July and is already available to the rest of the continent.
There have been reports of stock shortages in some stores in South Africa, and Huawei has confirmed that it is working on getting fresh supplies for these retailers.
At the time of the launch Huawei Consumer Business Group general manager in SA, Charlene Munilall said Huawei experienced the strongest growth in the Middle East and Africa region and the goal is to position the P8 as the most user-friendly smartphone for consumers globally.
Earlier this year the company announced that Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region contributed 35% to the company's overall revenue in the 2014 financial year.
