Huawei diversifies portfolio with UPS solution launch
Global ICT company Huawei has launched the UPS5000-S solution in Johannesburg, its first Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS) offering to the African market and a clear move to diversify its product portfolio.
The UPS5000-S, which offers power density modules of up to 50 kVA/3U, will be sold mainly to small and medium enterprises in the ICT industry.
David Chen, Director of Eastern and Southern Africa Data Centre told the launch of UPS products is in direct response to a growing need for reliable power from businesses, particularly within the SME bracket.
"We think Huawei has the largest market share in Eastern and Southern Africa for ICT products and services. There are a lot of countries that are not connected in this region and many people have the desire to be connected and enrich communication. We are introducing solutions with low cost and faster deployment and wider coverage because this is our wish and our responsibility to the African society."
Huawei will sell the solution through its channel partner network including Datacentrix, Altech, Mustek, Drive Control Corporation, Pinnacle Africa, and First Distribution.
The solution is priced at R400,000 and costs will vary depending on the UPS solution capabilities selected by clients.
"Our UPS has a high efficient power module of up to 97.5% which will reduce electricity costs. The UPS will supply power for three or four hours afterwards, depending on the battery solution you have chosen," said Chen.
