African cloud-based service provider Business Connexion (BCX) has announced its new chief executive officer (CEO) following the death of Benjamin Mophatlane last month.

Benjamin Mophatlane died after a cardiac arrest on Wednesday 11 June 2014.

His death shocked South Africa’s information and communications technology (ICT) sector, resulting in an outpouring of tributes.

And the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) listed company has on Wednesday announced that Isaac Mophatlane “will take over the role of his late brother.”

“Shareholders are advised that Mr Isaac Mophatlane, current Head of Sales and Marketing and Executive of the Canoa division, has been appointed as the new CEO with effect from 1 August 2014,” the company has said in a statement.

The statement goes on to say that “Tony Ruiters, Chairman of the Board commented that Isaac was the natural choice of successor to Benjamin given his background as co-founder of Business Connexion and his intimate understanding of the operations and culture of the Company.”

Isaac Mophatlane is a member of the Black Management Forum, the Electronic Industries Federation of South Africa and the Black Information Technology Forum. He is also the Deputy Non-executive Chairman of the Catholic Education Investment Company.

He takes over BCX at a time when the company has offices in South Africa, Namibia, Nigeria, Mozambique, Tanzania, Zambia, Kenya, Botswana, the United Kingdom and Dubai.

BCX also employs more than 6,800 people on the African continent and generates revenue in excess of R6 billion per annum.

BCX is further in line to be bought out by converged telecommunications provider Telkom, pending shareholder and regulatory approval.
