YahClick, NIGCOMSAT collaborate to deepen broadband in Nigeria
YahClick, a satellite communications operator, is working with Nigerian Communications Satellite (NIGCOMSAT) to increase broadband penetration in Sub-Saharan Africa and improve access to key electronic services.
The collaboration, which was launched today, will see YahClick collaborate closely with NIGCOMSAT to provide faster and more dependable broadband Internet connectivity than is currently available in underserved parts of Nigeria.
According to the parties, their plans will increase Internet speeds up to 25 Mbps for standard profiles and up to 100 Mbps for dedicated corporate users.
Sulaiman Al Ali, Yahsat’s chief commercial officer, said: “Our partnership will play an important role in helping the Nigerian government, as well as private organisations, roll out critical electronic services to underserved and unserved communities across the country.”
He added: “For Nigeria’s digitisation drive to be successful, it is imperative that in-country infrastructure is reliable enough to deliver uninterrupted services.”
Tukur Mohammed Lawal, NIGCOMSAT’s MD and CEO, commented: “Nigeria is undergoing a rapid process of digitisation and therefore it is critical to develop the infrastructure that can support the wide range of services we have planned for communities across the country.”
A steering committee comprising of executives from both organisations has been constituted to ensure that the project is implemented in accordance with national requirements.
