Telekom Networks Malawi Plc (TNM) has acquired OpenConnect Limited’s (OCL) Tier 3 data centre infrastructure for K12 billion, equivalent to about $6.9 million at the 10 September 2026 exchange rate.
The OCL Tier 3 data centre in Kanengo, Lilongwe, will be integrated with TNM’s existing data centre in Limbe to build a unified cloud infrastructure, according to the company.
The move will allow TNM to provide Data Centre as a Service and host local artificial intelligence platforms across Malawi, the company said.
“This investment is part of TNM’s growth ambition and our commitment to building the digital infrastructure needed to support the Malawi 2063 agenda, which aims to create a digitally enabled middle-income economy by 2063,” said the company in a statement.
Speaking during the unveiling ceremony, TNM chief executive officer Michel Hebert said: “TNM wants to use this data centre to improve digital connectivity and help improve services which are interconnected in other areas like Limbe, where we have our data centre. We want to give opportunities to businesses, entrepreneurs and other individuals who are willing to use it.”
