Epson targets Zimbabwe's e-learning space

Epson is looking to strengthen its contribution to the Zimbabwe market, specifically the education sector, and is actively pushing printing, point-of-sale and projection solutions via the local channel.

These solutions will be available through Epson's official SADC distributor Mustek Ltd.

Epson partner Direct E-Learning has joined Epson and Mustek Ltd in an initiative to provide schools with e-learning solutions and equipment.

"Epson is a trusted brand in Zimbabwe, and this re-introduction of our offerings in the region serves to remind consumers and businesses that Epson's products are still readily available," said Alison Ekland, Business Development Account Manager, SADC Region at Epson.

Direct E-Learning Zimbabwe's operations director, Canaan Gatsi welcomed the partnership and said: "It's a plus for Zimbabwean schools and businesses to have technological giants firm, Epson coming in to participate, end users need choices and quality affordable world-class products provided by the company."

University of Zimbabwe ICT lecturer Kennedy Monde added: "This partnership will be far more constructive than simply placing products in schools ... Epson must take advantage of this, to have the students' feedback to refine their technology even further."

Monde added: "In addition to its range of laser display solutions, Epson will be featuring its business inkjet printers that aim to bring low-cost colour printing to educational institutions."

In April 2019, Zimbabwe's primary and secondary education minister Paul Mavima said his government "will leave no stone unturned" in an effort to attract American multinational technology companies, such as Google and Facebook, to assist in digitising the country's education system.
