Oracle recruits to meet EMEA demand for cloud services

Oracle has announced it is adding 1,000 new jobs in the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region to boost its cloud computing business. This is based on the latest financial results with total cloud revenue up 58%.

According to the company's fiscal 2017 Q4 and fiscal 2017 full year results, Oracle SaaS (Software as a Service) cloud revenues were up 67% to US$964 million.

"Total cloud revenues were up 58% to $1.4 billion, and non- generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) total cloud revenues were up 64% to $1.4 billion. Cloud plus on-premise software revenues were up 5% to $8.9 billion, and non-GAAP cloud and on-premise software revenues were up 6% to $8.9 billion. Total revenues were up 3% to $10.9 billion," Oracle reported.

Oracle CEO Safra Catz said the company's fourth quarter results were very strong as revenue growth and earnings per share both substantially exceeded the high end of guidance.

"We continue to experience rapid adoption of the Oracle Cloud led by the 75% growth in our SaaS business in Q4. This cloud hyper-growth is expanding our operating margins, and we expect earnings per share growth to accelerate in fiscal 2018," Catz said.

Oracle added that it sold US$855 million of new annually recurring cloud revenue (ARR) in Q4, putting the company over its US$2 billion accounting rate of return (ARR) bookings goal for fiscal year 2017.

The new jobs are in human resources, marketing, recruitment, finance, supply chain or sales roles. Oracle said the selected candidates will be selling its cloud technologies.

Tino Scholman, VP of Oracle Cloud in the EMEA region, said the company's cloud business is growing and requires a new generation of talent to the company. "We are looking to hire relationship focused people who are self-motivated and smart, who thrive for business transformation for our customers and love delivering great results."
