MTN Nigeria announces new COO

Mazen Mroue, former executive at MTN Irancell, has been named the new Chief Operating Officer for MTN Nigeria and is responsible for directing commercial and technical operations at the operator.

According to a brief statement issued by the company, Mroue has 22 years' experience in telecommunications and has served MTN in various capacities, particularly in Africa and the Middle East.

Funsho Aina, MTN Nigeria's Public Relations Manager, said Mroue joined MTN Irancell as COO in July 2014.

He has also served at MTN Ghana, occupied non-executive director position at MTN Cyprus and was the Chief Executive Officer for MTN Uganda and MTN Liberia.

Ferdi Moolman, MTN Nigeria's CEO, said, "Mazen brings a track record of achievements and a wealth of experience to the team, drawn from the telecoms markets across Africa and the Middle East."

Mroue, who has already assumed the position as COO, said that he is MTN Nigeria at a time when "new technologies are able to shape customers experience and where digital innovations will be key for national development."

Mroue, a graduate of Harvard University's Executive Programme in Leadership Development, holds a Master's degree in Engineering, Intellectual Systems and Networks.
