NetDragon Websoft, a China-based global e-learning and gaming company, has confirmed its intention to compete in Africa.

Speaking during the Entrepreneurship Forum in Nairobi, Simon Leung, Vice Chairman and Executive Director of NetDragon Websoft said the company plans to train game developers in Nigeria within a month and is already in consultation with the relevant local ministries.

The company has opened talks with Nigeria's senior government officials, including Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Minister of State for Education Anthony Onwuka and Minster of Communications Abdur-Raheem Adebayo Shittu.

Leung said that the company would host potential game developers at its headquarters in China where they will receive two months of training in collaboration with its advanced game engineers. However, the focus is also on contribution to e-learning in the West African country.

"NetDragon plans to promote the construction of smart classrooms in over 100 districts outside of capital city Abuja in Nigeria," the company stated.

Leung also confirmed that they are in talks with the Kenyan ministry of Information Communication and Technology and the ministry of Education to introduce some of their solutions to the country.

Following a fact-finding mission to Kenya, Leung said that they are also looking to partner with businesses in the East African country to launch products based on their platform.

Of interest to NetDragon Websoft is the growing mobile penetration in the continent and this coincides with its interest in mobile games and education application development.

The company has 800 million teacher resources which could help education professionals with access to effective resources using AI.

Leung said the company's platform would be effective in building a digital library resource for Kenya, help the education ministry launch an education cloud, share IT knowledge in education and facilitate distance learning.

The company recently acquired American based e-learning platform Edmodo which, according to Leung, has attracted over 150,000 users in Kenya.

The e-learning platform has over 400,000 schools enrolled in its platform from 190 countries.
