West African connectivity and datacentre provider, MainOne has announced the lockdown of key operations across Nigeria, Ghana, Ivory Coast and Portugal.

In a statement, the company said the action is geared towards ensuring the safety of staff and customers, while also enabling continuous operation of its connectivity and datacentre services.

“This is part of our business continuity plan to sustain operations with minimal impact to our customers,” MainOne stated.

Clarifying what will be affected, the company said it is shutting down various office locations to non-essential staff and critical staff will be accommodated at the operational facilities required to keep services running.

“This will imply that face-to-face customer engagements and non-critical provisioning activities will be placed on hold. This is in addition to strict adherence to the previous guidelines of no events, no large gatherings,” the company added.

It said it is choosing to prioritise sustaining its core operations over attending to issues on customer or third-party locations.

The announcement was made just a few days after the company announced the completion of its carrier-neutral datacentre built to Tier III standards in Cote D’Ivoire.

The datacentre in Abidjan is focused on addressing the needs of ISPs, telecommunications operators and MNOs, as well as global content providers and enterprises in Cote D’Ivoire.

Built alongside the cable landing station to house infrastructure to facilitate the growth of the digital economy in Cote D’Ivoire, MainOne said the carrier-neutral facility will bring direct access to its cable system in addition to providing interconnection with major network operators in the West African country.

In 2018, MainOne publicised its plans to boost the digital transformation of the Francophone region with an initial investment of US$20-million on cable landing and datacentre projects in Côte D’Ivoire.

In October 2019, ITWeb Africa reported MainOne’s partnership with Orange Côte d'Ivoire to land a submarine cable at Grand-Bassam in the south of the country as part of the final leg of the company’s expansion to reach Senegal and Cote D’Ivoire.
