Vodafone Zambia guns for more 4G market share

In a bid to reinforce and expand its distribution network and grow market share, Vodafone Zambia has appointed Amon Jere as its new chief sales and distribution officer.

The company says this forms part of its drive to engage the country's fiercely competitive 4G space.

Jere, whose recent previous role was chief sales and distribution officer at MTN Zambia, has over 15 years of international leadership in commercial, sales and distribution within the telecommunication industry across Southern, Eastern and Western African regions.

He previously worked for Celtel Zambia as sales and distribution director before moving to Kenya where he worked as sales and distribution director for Celtel Kenya. He also worked as sales director for Vodafone Ghana, Glo Ghana as commercial director as well as Zambia Telecommunications Company as chief commercial officer.

Said Jere, "I'm excited to be heading up the sales and distribution function at Vodafone Zambia and I look forward to working with management and staff at all levels to continue to growth the business and add real value to the life of the digital consumer and cement the growing position of Vodafone as Zambia's leading innovative 4G leader by delivering customer oriented digital solution and bespoke products."

In a statement issued yesterday, Vodafone Zambia CEO Lars Stork said, "I have no doubt that our new chief sales and distribution officer will bring the capability and expertise to continue to build Vodafone Zambia as a flagship business in Zambia and maintain its position as an innovative next-generation operator."

Due to the growing competition in the provision of data services in the country, most data operators have reduced the cost of data bundles by over 70%.

Consumers are now buying 5GB data bundles for K100, which would previously have only been enough to purchase less than 2GB of data bundles.

To date Vodafone's network, launched in 2016, has expanded to major towns and provinces but has yet to reach most rural areas compared to other 4G network operators including MTN Zambia, Airtel Zambia and Zamtel.
