India’s Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) says it has won a three year contract from the Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) for the modernisation of the African country’s tax system.

TCS says this is its third revenue and tax system automation project in Africa following projects for the Uganda Revenue Authority and an ongoing implementation for Kenya Revenue Authority.

Meanwhile, TCS says it has implemented more than 15 tax framework implementations in India and seven in US.

Regarding ZRA, TCS says the scope of the project includes providing an integrated tax software application based on its taxation framework, a 24-hour taxpayer portal for e-services, data migration, training, roll-out, warranty and operational support.

"The taxation project is all about service delivery transformation through a technology-led, service oriented approach. The new TCS tax framework will help Zambian government offer world class delivery of taxation services to its citizens as well as provide an effective monitoring system for its tax officials," says Tanmoy Chakrabarty, vice president and global head for the TCS government industry solutions unit.
