Spacecom satellites to help broadcast AFCON tournament

Satellite operations company, Spacecom, has announced it will broadcast all the games of the 29th African Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament using one of its AMOS satellite fleet.

The AMOS-5 satellite at 17°E will be used to broadcast games from all five South African stadiums in high-definition (HD) via its pan-African C-band.

According to Spacecom, AMOS-5 serves Africa from the 17°E orbital position with a high power pan-African C-band and three Ku-band beams that together cover the entire continent with connectivity to Europe and the Middle East.

“Sports entertainment is spectacularly popular and a growing sector in the broadcast field, especially in South Africa,” said Eyal Copitt, Spacecom’s senior vice president of sales for Africa and Asia.

AFCON will be held in South Africa with the first games scheduled to kick off tomorrow right through to 10 February 2013.
