Westcon announces exclusive distribution deal with Extreme Networks

Value-added technology distributor Westcon Sub-Saharan Africa has secured sole rights to distribute Extreme Networks in Angola, Ethiopia, Kenya, Mauritius, Nigeria and Tanzania.

California-based Extreme Networks provides software-driven network solutions "from the enterprise edge to the cloud".

According to information supplied, the company has 30,000 customers globally and its solution portfolio includes ExtremeSwitching, ExtremeApplications, ExtremeRouting and ExtremeMobility technologies.

Extreme Networks believes the network edge is where digital transformation is either won or lost.

To this end the company recently launched the Extreme Smart OmniEdge network solution, which it says "provides customers (with) unified wired/wireless infrastructure for cloud or premise deployment, augmented with AI-powered applications and managed through a single pane of glass."

Extreme Networks says it was recently placed in the leader quadrant of the 2018 Gartner Magic Quadrant for Wired and Wireless LAN Access Infrastructure, and cited as a challenger in the Gartner Magic Quadrant for Data Centre Networking.

Rentia Booysen, business unit manager: Collaboration at Westcon Sub-Saharan Africa, said, "We have enjoyed a global relationship with Extreme Networks for many years, and as one of the fastest growing networking players in the market at present, we are looking forward to helping our African partners better unpack these solutions as a fit for their customers."

In April 2018 Westcon executives explained the company's "strategic restructure" which included the integration of its African businesses and emphasising the value of bundled offerings across its key business units - which incorporates UCC, security, software and mobility, for Africa.
