AccessKenya eyes connecting 15 Kenyan counties in 2014

Internet group AccessKenya says it is ready to connect to five more Kenyan counties in a move that will see it delve into new business territories.

The counties to be connected by wireless and fibre networks in the first quarter of 2014 include: Kisii, Narok, Bungoma, Transzoia and Laikipia.

These will be the flagship county connections in the country as the company aims to complete connection to 15 counties by the end of this year.

The company has already connected seven counties in Kenya including, Kakamega, Kericho, Machakos, Murang’a, Kiambu, Embu and Meru.

“We are committed to delivering localised ICT solutions to every county. AccessKenya appreciates that each county has unique ICT needs so we plan to work with county governments and ICT managers to tailor make and deliver scalable IT solutions,” Jonathan Somen, AccessKenya group managing director said.

AccessKenya is also digging additional fibre cable extensions in Athi River and the North Coast of Mombasa to add up to its existing 450 km ethernet carrier cable.

In its biggest move yet, in 2013 the company won the Machakos county business where the Konza Technology City will be, giving the company an edge in the region.
