Mobile money can now buy newspapers in Zambia

Mobile operator MTN Zambia has signed an agreement with Times Printpak Zambia Limited that will enable customers buy the electronic version of the Times of Zambia and Sunday Times using Mobile money.

The agreement also allows Times Printpak Zambia Limited advertisers to pay for advertisements through the MTN’s Mobile Money.

MTN Zambia chief sales and distribution officer Amon Jere said the partnership would allow customers to pay for the Times e-paper and advertisements in a convenient manner as they would not be required to physically pay for the service.

He was speaking during a signing ceremony between MTN Mobile Money and Times Printpak aimed at enhancing e-services of the two companies in Lusaka yesterday.

The Times e-paper is an electronic version of the whole Times of Zambia and Sunday Times of Zambia newspapers presented in Portable Document Format (PDF), complete with articles and adverts.

Jere said Zambia’s economy was becoming digital, making it a challenge for some organisations to collect revenue. He said using MTN mobile money to pay for the e-service provided by the Times Printpak, transitions would be faster and reliable and that it will be easier for Times Printpak to collect its money.

“The partnership will allow customers to pay for the Times e-paper and advertisements in a convenient manner as they would not be required to physically pay for the service. MTN mobile money will provide faster and reliable transactions,” Jere said.
