Huawei Kenya has constantly and consciously broadened its focus to absorb young Kenyans within the firm and within its partner ecosystem.

Huawei, a Chinese technology company, is spearheading 38 other Asian businesses in hiring more than 500 young Kenyans in fields including as ICT, manufacturing, trade, and construction.

Gavin Gao, CEO of Huawei Kenya, stated that the company is an advocate of the Kenyan government's digital transformation programmes and remains committed to helping the country meet its job creation targets.

The CEO spoke at the recently ended YouthConnekt Africa Summit 2023 in Nairobi.

For the first time, the YouthConnekt Africa Summit 2023 was hosted in Kenya, with the subject "Youth innovating a borderless African renaissance."

Over 20,000 young people, government officials, corporate leaders, and development champions gathered to highlight Youth leadership and innovation for Africa's integration through policy discussions, storytelling, and networking, as well as entrepreneur-focused programmes such as marketplace and investor meetings.

The job expo was organised by Huawei in collaboration with KCETA (Kenya China Economic and Trade Association).

KCETA is a social organisation in Kenya made up of Chinese enterprises. The group was created in 2001 with 51 Chinese-invested enterprises in Kenya, and it now has 102 members as of December 2023.

"As part of our programme to support talent growth and economic development, we have co-organized the 2023 edition of the annual Job Fair with the KCETA to offer young Kenyans more than 500 placement opportunities," he said.

''I appreciate the participation of all KCETA members in the programme, particularly Sunda International and the China Road and Bridge Construction Company," he added.

He stated that Huawei Kenya has constantly and consciously broadened its focus to absorb young Kenyans within the firm and within its partner ecosystem, including conducting the ICT talent ecosystem programme, which upskills youth in digital technology and ICT competency.

250 teachers have been taught in advanced technology as part of the programme, and over 10,000 university and college students are trained each year.

Huawei also has a 6-month Graduate management training programme that provides adolescents with training and internships within the company, which leads to employment placements at the company or within its partner ecosystem
