Data revenue cushions impact of voice decline for BTC

Botswana Telecommunications (BTC) has reported data revenue increase in its half-year results for the period ended 30 September 2021.

The growth cushioned the company from plummeting voice revenues attributed to an increase in remote working.

Despite the tough trading conditions, BTC delivered resilient performance, according to company chairperson Lorato Boakgomo-Ntakhwana.

She said, “We saw an overall 30% increase in profit after tax compared to the same period in the prior year,” she said. However, the business recorded a slight revenue decrease from P710 million to P700 million for the six months under review. We are optimistic about the growth potential for data services and therefore we have expanded our customer touch-points and continue to expand our network capacity and coverage.”

Boakgomo-Ntakhwana added that the company is rolling out more solutions to assist the education sector with e-learning and associated connectivity and content.

BTC also intends to strengthen the mobile financial service (SMEGA) ecosystem.

“We have expanded our digital offering of cloud-based solutions and managed services as we assist our clients to realise their digital transformation ambitions.”
