Nigeria key for InfiNet's growth strategy

Nigeria has one of the biggest and fastest growing telecom markets in Africa, attracting huge amounts of foreign investment, according to research firm BuddeComm.

The West African country has 129 million active mobile subscribers, according to the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).

Last year the NCC also stated that 50 million Nigerians have access to the internet.

According to Internet World Stats Africa's most populous nation has an internet penetration rate of just 39.7%.

Global leader in fixed broadband wireless connectivity InfiNet Wireless expects Nigeria's connectivity to improve in the near future.

InfiNet announced that it plans to work through its reseller partner TruNorth to expand its presence, improve connectivity across Nigeria and bring wireless connectivity to the continent.

The region has been identified as one with low internet speeds and poor connectivity and telecom providers are not providing sufficient internet speeds that meet the demands of the growing market, reads a statement.

Kamal Mokrani, global vice president of InfiNet Wireless said, "Nigeria is a key developing market for us and we are working with TruNorth, an experienced telecom service provider in the region, to provide reliable and state of the art networks for high capacity connectivity."

TruNorth deploys InfiNet's tailored solutions and aims to provide customers with optimised network design, along with high reliability and scalability.

"TruNorth believe that Nigeria offers the largest telecom market in Africa and shows consistent growth year after year. The market demand in Nigeria outweighs both the service offerings and the availability of infrastructure needed to meet these demands, which make it a key focus for wireless providers such as InifNet Wireless," said Abdallah Fawaz, managing director of TruNorth.

The Nigeria National Bureau of Statistics says the country's total population size is estimated to be 178.5 million citizens.
