AfricaCom: music streaming service TruSpot launching TV, radio station
African social music and entertainment network TruSpot plans to launch its own digital television and radio station.
Speaking to ITWeb Africa, the chief executive officer and founder of TruSpot, Ikena Orizu, said that by March next year, the company plans to make the move.
TruSpot provides access to original radio shows, music tracks, videos, news and station content.
“The station will be digital and will be accessible through almost all devices,” Orizu said.
“The radio and television station will showcase African music video including artist’s concert shows.”
The company head said that TruSpot will become Africa’s own “MTV”.
This announcement comes at a time when the company is looking to build on its success.
On the 23rd of November 2013, the company plans unveil a new platform for their service. The platform will also move towards content on-demand.
According to Orizu, the company will top 100,000 tracks on its platform and have over 5,000 artists for users to sample.
This will officially make TruSpot the largest music streaming service in Africa, says Orizu.
Its closest competitor, iROKING has 2,000 artists and only over 40,000 tracks on its playlist.
Orizu said that users should look out for additional functions in the future as well.
Some improvements could include having a music recognition app.
This means that users could get to know which song an artist is performing in public or even in public systems. The app will then allow the users to chose either to listen or buy the track.
The social experience for the platform will also be key in pushing more listeners.
Recommendation from friends will encourage listeners to tune in to what their friends are listening to.
Orizu made these revelations during a digital music workshop at the on going AfricaCom conference in Cape Town, South Africa.
