MTN SA appoints new Chief HR Officer

Nhlanhla Qwabe has been appointed as the new Chief HR Officer for MTN SA, effective from 1 August 2016.

In a statement MTN explains that prior to joining the company Qwabe held the position of Group Human Resources Executive at Aspen Pharmacare, and also served as Human Resources Director for Nike South Africa.

He also worked for MultiChoice where he served in various capacities in a senior management role, said MTN.

A graduate of the University of Zululand with a Bachelor of Administration and an Honours degree in Administration, Qwabe also holds a Masters degree in Business Administration from Milpark Business School, according to the operator.

Mteto Nyati, MTN SA Chief Executive Officer, said, "We are pleased and excited to have a candidate of Qwabe's calibre who has the requisite skills, experience and expertise to help MTN realise one of its strategic objectives of overhauling employee engagement."

"I am grateful for the opportunity to join this iconic global African company, whose success over the years is truly admirable. I am looking forward to contributing to create a meaningful employee experience towards the realisation of MTN's vision of delivering a bold new digital world to all our stakeholders" said Qwabe.

The mobile operator has made a series of new appointments in key positions recently as part of its new business strategy, most notably the appointment of Rob Shuter as Group CEO in June, while Gunter Engling stepped in as Acting Group CFO to replace the outgoing Brett Goschen.
