The appointments are part of President William Ruto's continuing government rebuilding after he dismissed practically his entire cabinet earlier in July due to civil unrest.

As part of Kenya's ongoing government reshuffle, new heads of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) have been appointed to over 40 ministries and state departments.

The appointment of these directors is part of the government's efforts to create digital jobs in the East African country, which is currently facing demonstrations from unemployed youths.

President William Ruto's ongoing government resetting follows his dismissal of his entire cabinet earlier in July owing to the civil unrest by the youths.

John Tanui, principal secretary in the state department of ICT and digital economy, stated that the government was dedicated to developing such jobs for young people through the Digital SuperHighway and the Creative Economy.

Tanui has met with 46 ICT professionals ahead of their deployment.

“Their diverse expertise in research and digital innovation, software development, e-commerce and entrepreneurship, cyber security, and systems audit and control will be instrumental in advancing the Ministry's mission to build an informed and digitally empowered Kenyan society,” he said.
