Cameroon suffers outgoing international traffic disruptions
Cameroon Telecommunications (Camtel), a state-owned company, has reported a significant problem at one of its undersea optic fibre cable landing stations, resulting in connectivity disruptions.
Camtel did not provide specifics on the incident, but stated that it occurred on September 5 at the West African Cable System landing point in Batoke.
"This resulted in the loss of some of our outgoing international traffic, impacting internet services and several links at many of our customers' and partners' sites," Camtel explained.
The telco apologised in a statement for the network disruptions caused by the failure and said response teams had been despatched to establish the reason and restore the link.
Judith Yah Sunday, Camtel's General Manager, has previously lamented that the company's key network equipment has been vandalised, and that this crime is undermining large expenditures made by the Cameroonian government.
