ST Digital, a pan-African cloud and data centre solutions provider, has announced GPU Cloud Africa, a service it describes as the first sovereign Artificial Intelligence (AI) hosting platform equipped with NVIDIA GPU processors in Cameroon and Cote d'Ivoire.

The rollout is intended to provide African businesses, start-ups, and research institutions with high-performance computing resources for AI applications, ensuring optimal performance for deep learning, big data processing, and advanced simulations.

According to Anthony Same, group managing director of ST Digital, GPU Cloud Africa addresses the challenge of insufficient local infrastructure, requiring innovators to rely on international platforms with restricted capabilities.

He added that GPU Cloud Africa directly provides a secure, locally-hosted, high-performance computing environment that enables African developers to build and enhance AI models at globally competitive speeds.

“Deploying NVIDIA GPU-powered servers in Douala and Abidjan is a game-changer. Today, African AI talent faces immense hurdles – where a start-up in the G7 can optimise an AI model in 30 minutes, African innovators often wait up to six days. This disparity is no longer acceptable,” Same said.

According to ST Digital, GPU Cloud Africa will reinforce Africa’s digital sovereignty, ensure that sensitive data remains within the continent and that AI-driven innovation flourishes without dependence on foreign infrastructure.

Starting in the second quarter of 2025, GPU Cloud Africa will provide an NVIDIA-powered AI infrastructure, complete with storage, computing, and development tools tailored to local market needs.

“Our goal is clear, to equip hundreds of African start-ups and researchers with the computing power they need to thrive in AI, under the best possible conditions,” Same added.
