Banks in Zambia boosted by new data centre

A newly built data centre has been launched in Zambia that is planned to cater to the country’s banking sector and key institutions.

The facility dubbed ‘N Data centre’ is located in the capital city Lusaka, and is a subsidiary of Asian technology company NetOne IT.

The centre is further planned to provide data recovery services to banks and other institutions in the country, in case of a disaster.

N Data officials said they intend to play an important role in the smooth running of businesses in the country.

The launch of the data centre means that local companies will now have to do away with expensive internal solutions and offshore solutions, according Zambia vice president Guy Scott.

Zambia vice president Guy Scott also said that there are several statutory requirements in the country that require banks to have backups and disaster recovery plans.

“Up until now, financial institutions had to make up or do with expensive internal solution or offshore solution,” Scott said.
