Pay-TV provider Multichoice unveils new Kenyan studios

African pay-TV provider MultiChoice has unveiled its brand new M-Net and SuperSport studios in Nairobi, Kenya.

MultiChoice officials have announced that the M-Net studios are planned to be home to the likes of a just-launched local Kenyan telenovela production, Kona, which is to be aired on the Africa Magic channel.

Meanwhile, the SuperSport studios are expected to be used for sport commentary and analysis in that country’s main language, Swahili.

“This is an emphatic move into the top-end world of TV production,” said Andre Venter, head of SuperSport in Africa.

According to a company statement, 12 camera channels have been installed across the studios: eight for the SuperSport studios and four for Kona.

The new facilities are full high definition studios, supported by two control rooms, nine post-production suites, two quality control suites and international control room central distribution, the statement reads.

In addition, the two control rooms have been designed to provide both flexibility and suitability for different types of productions, from the likes of live sporting events to recording scenes for narrative series.

“East Africa has a great appetite for high-quality viewing and we intend delivering. Our teams have been training and the equipment couldn’t be more modern. We hope that this reaffirms our confidence in the region and its people,” said Venter.

MultiChoice East Africa regional director, Stephen Isaboke, has said the launch of the studios was a milestone event for both the MultiChoice group and the creative and production industries in Kenya.

“It confirms the group’s enormous investment in the region and is testament to our emphasis on technological excellence,” he said.
