South Africa distributor DCC opens Mozambique office

South African headquartered ICT distribution firm, Distributor Drive Control Corporation (DCC), plans to expand its African presence by setting up an office in Mozambique capital city, Maputo.

The company announced that along with the local office and warehouse in that country, it also plans to hire a sales team headed up by Mozambican local Marina Duarte.

Duarte has more than eight years of experience in the ICT industry.

Ricky Correia the project manager at Mozambique DCC has been tasked with the start-up and initial management of the branch.

“Mozambique is one of the top 10 fastest growing economies in the world, and there has been much investment in the country as a result of the discovery of coal and natural gas in the region,” said Correia.

“Government has also begun to grow the local infrastructure to support new business. For a company like DCC, there is significant opportunity to grow our own business and service emerging enterprises in the region. We are now geared to take advantage of this,” said Correia.

According to a company statement, setting up an office in the southern African nation could enable resellers to purchase stock locally.

This means, they could benefit from shorter turnaround times, as well as purchase from DCC in smaller quantities than previously, reducing their need for working capital and mitigating the high cost of maintaining stock themselves.

Neil Rex, managing director at DCC said, “Our neighbouring countries are experiencing Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth rates far higher than those in South Africa, making expansion into these regions a logical move."

He added, "Furthermore, the establishment of an office and warehouse in Mozambique fits with our strategy of becoming the preferred IT distributor in the South African Development Community (SADC) region, leveraging the ideals of a free trade zone.”

According to the DCC website, the company has offices in Botswana and Namibia as well.
