VimpelCom makes it on the NASDAQ-100 Index

Global telecoms group VimpelCom, which has operations in various African markets, has announced that it is set to be added on the NASDAQ-100 Index later this month.

The NASDAQ-100 Index in the US is made up of 100 of the largest domestic and international non-financial securities listed on the NASDAQ stock market based on market capitalisation.

Through its subsidiaries VimpelCom provides voice and data services in Burundi, Central African Republic and Zimbabwe.

In Zimbabwe VimpelCom controls a significant interest in that country's second largest mobile company, Telecel.

Jo Lunder, chief executive officer of VimpelCom said, "NASDAQ-100 Index inclusion is an important milestone for VimpelCom and one of the reasons we viewed a listing on NASDAQ to be very attractive for the company."

He added, "Our listing on NASDAQ was a positive development for our shareholders, which has now been underscored by the company's inclusion in the NASDAQ-100. Both of these events demonstrate the progress the company continues to make in executing against the initiatives of its value agenda."
