Singapore’s iDirect upgrades Nigerian SimbaNET’s network

Singapore owned IP-based satellite communications firm VT iDirect (iDirect) has helped to upgrade service provider and systems integrator SimbaNET Nigeria with the ‘iDirect Evolution’ offering.

SimbaNET is a licensed very small aperture terminal (VSAT) operator in Nigeria that specialises in providing high speed data and internet connectivity to government, internet service providers (ISPs), telecom carriers, mobile operators, network providers and corporate enterprises.

And the iDirect upgrade to SimbaNET enables it to boost its service offering for its banking and government customers while also enabling the company to enter new markets.

Furthermore, the upgrade is planned to increase the network's satellite capacity to support broadband applications such as voice over internet protocol (VoIP), data and video as well as narrowband services such as a automated teller machines (ATM) for banking.

SimbaNET's ‘Evolution upgrade’ includes a Universal hub, iDX 3.1 software and X1 and X3 remotes.

SimbaNET also wants to expand into market segments such as cell backhaul and distance education. The maritime, defense and aerospace markets are also on the cards for SimbaNET’s communications-on-the-move (COTM) applications.

"With iDirect's Evolution platform we can continue our ongoing commitment to provide our customers with the highest possible value by improving our services. We also can continue to broaden our services to new industries." said Surya Pandey, head of technology at SimbaNET.

Majdi Atout, regional vice president for Middle East and Africa at iDirect, said, "In order to stay competitive, service providers need to update their networks with the latest technology to support new applications and growing customer requirements. We are thrilled to see SimbaNET continue to expand its services in Nigeria and optimize its network's performance with the iDirect platform."
