South Africa’s latest social media stats revealed

Statistics of South Africa’s social media landscape have been revealed by prominent World Wide Worx researcher Arthur Goldstuck and a firm called Fuseware, in what has been described as the country’s ‘largest study’ on the matter to date.

According to the researchers, “2.435 million South Africans use Twitter, tweeting 15 million times every month.”

Comedian @trevornoah is the most followed Twitter account in the country as well, says the study. Meanwhile, SA brands are also said to spend an average of $5000 on Twitter promoted tweet campaigns.

The researchers have gone on to further say that “6.8m South Africans use Facebook on their phones”, while airports and shopping centres are the most checked-in venues for SA Facebook users.

Moreover, 9.35 million active South Africans have reportedly used the mobile social networking system MXit over a 90 day period with about 9.81% of these users having actively spent money using the virtual currency system called ‘Moola’ over a 30 day period.
