Kenya suspends Comms Authority director general
Ezra Chiloba, the Director General of the Communications Authority of Kenya (CA), has been suspended.
Chiloba was suspended Monday evening, and the reason for the suspension remains unknown.
According to a statement issued by the Authority's board chair, Mary Mungai, Christopher Wambua will now serve in the post in an acting capacity.
"Following a meeting of the Authority’s Board held on 18th September 2023, resulting in the suspension of the Director General, I am pleased to inform all staff of the appointment of Mr Christopher Wambua as a Director General in Acting Capacity effective today until further notice. I trust that you will accord him the necessary support," the statement by Mungai reads.
Chiloba joined CA in September 2021 for a four-year renewable term taking over from the late Francis Wangusi whose term ended in August 2019. Prior to this appointment, he served as principal partner at Chil and Kemp Strategies Ltd, a Strategy Management Company, where he focused on strategy and risk management, policy and regulatory analysis, and leadership and management effectiveness.
Chiloba has also previously served as the chief executive officer/commission secretary of Kenya’s electoral body the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission between 2015 – 2018.
