Wari aims to 'revolutionise banking' in Africa
Developers of Wari, a platform for financial and commercial transaction, has announced expansion into the Nigerian market.
The platform provides clients with mobile, web and card solutions in Africa and around the world through its global network.
Expansion into Nigeria was enabled by the company's successful securement of operating license from the financial industry regulator, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) that enables Wari customers in Nigeria to carry out domestic and international remittances, make payments for electricity and TV, in addition to airtime purchase.
The company said it currently has more than 45,000 points around the world and is operating in over 40 countries. It added that more than 700,000 transactions are made on the platform daily and the company is positioned to revolutionise banking services in Africa.
"The Wari digital platform is designed to accept even more merchants and financial partners in Nigeria and allow them to access the largest customer network not only in Nigeria but in Africa and the rest of the World," said Kabirou Mbodje, Wari Group CEO.
In Nigeria, the company said it has entered into partnership with three local banks – the United Bank of Africa (UBA), Union Bank of Nigeria (UBN) and Ecobank.
Wari claims its services and business model will increase the proportion of African markets with access to basic banking services from 40% to 70%.
"Wari is a new generation of innovative platform for financial and non-financial service transactions for Africa and the world. We are thrilled by Nigeria's huge potential and by the opportunity for an African-born Group to partner with Nigerian institutions," said Kabirou.
