Commvault, a global provider of data protection and information management systems, has together with multinational ICT solutions firm Huawei, launched a hybrid cloud backup solution.

The solution was unveiled at CeBIT 2017 in Hannover, Germany, and enables enterprises to back up the core data of private data centres to a Huawei public cloud platform using Commvault software.

According to the companies, the solution reduces customer investment in data backup and simplifies backup data maintenance.

"In addition, the solution provides on-demand storage resources to support businesses that are growing rapidly, enabling enterprises to get planning- and maintenance-free backup storage while ensuring a high level of security and availability of all critical data," reads a statement from the companies.

The partners add that in contrast to on-premises data backup, this off-premises solution provides remote disaster recovery. "This enables Huawei public clouds to provide convenient, large-capacity object storage at a low-cost and remarkable data durability. In addition, the solution supports encrypted transmission and static data encryption so as to guarantee the security of enterprise data," the statement continues.

The Hybrid Cloud Backup Solution is currently applicable to the Open Telekom Cloud co-built by Huawei and Deutsche Telekom.

In order to guarantee that data floats between a private cloud and a public cloud freely and securely, and to satisfy business development at any time as required, Huawei and Commvault extended their backup capabilities to hybrid cloud scenarios. Now, this solution is ready for use on the Open Telekom Cloud".

A recently released report by Dimension Data, The Success Factors for Managing Hybrid IT revealed that hybrid IT is becoming a standard enterprise model, and that management of the hybrid IT environment is considered to be one of the top three challenges in deployment.
