Rwanda to roll out e-gov services

East African nation Rwanda plans to roll-out e-government services to boost service delivery in the country, says its Ministry of Youth and ICT (MYICT).

The move, which is a collaboration between the MYICT and South Korea’s National IT Promotion Agency (NIPA), is expected to see the development of Rwanda’s e-Government Master Plan project.

The project proposes efficiency and effectiveness of government-to-government (G2G), government-to-citizen (G2C) as well as government-to-business (G2B) processes in Rwanda.

And according to Rwanda’s minister of Youth and ICT, Jean Philbert Nsengimana, the country has so far has achieved a lot in the ICT sector and can continue doing so in government.

“Our aim is to provide facilities to the citizens in Rwanda to access services without travelling vast distances.

“With the use of ICT in service delivery will be accessible online or via cellphones and will mainly drive the development of our economy,” said Nsengimana in a statement.

Hwang Soon-Taik South Korea's ambassador to Rwanda added, “I see how Rwanda is planning and set goals of how to fully integrate e-government in all services in the country; this is very important and will be a foundation to achieve more as we did in Korea.”

Like its neighbouring country Kenya, Rwanda’s government has embarked on an ICT development plan in line with its ‘Vision 2020’.

The plans seeks to transform the country into a middle income economy and an information-rich knowledge based economy.
