African property listings on Lamudi.com soar to 78,000

African properties makes up just under one-third of all listings on website Lamudi.com, says the head of communications at Africa Internet Holding (AIH) Nils Seger.

Online property listings website Lamudi, which was launched in October 2013, operates across 25 countries in Africa, Asia and South America.

Marking its six months of existence, the company - which is part of AIH - released a press statement saying it has notched up over 250,000 property listings worldwide.

Of all these listings, Seger told ITWeb Africa that Africa constitutes 78,000.

“In six months we have grown to a strong global network with over 300 employees across 25 countries worldwide,” said Aneesa Arshad, chief executive officer of Lamudi East and Southern Africa, in a statement.

“In Kenya, we started with a small core team and have become the number one platform for real estate in the country,” Arshad added.

In particular, Lamudi helps sellers, buyers, landlords and renters find homes, land and commercial properties online.

African countries where Lamudi operates includes Algeria, Ethiopia, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Madagascar, Morocco, Mozambique, Nigeria, Rwanda, Tanzania, Tunisia, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

Lamudi, in turn, is owned by AIH, which was set up late last year by mobile operator MTN, online incubator Rocket Internet and Millicom International Cellular who each have a 33.3% stake in AIH.

AIH focuses on developing internet businesses across the continent.
