Cameroon plans to add 4,000 kilometres of cable to its 12,000-kilometer-long terrestrial optical fibre network in order to improve service delivery.

Cameroon Telecommunications (Camtel) general manager Judith Yah Sunday revealed the network infrastructure buildout on Thursday in the capital Yaounde, during a press conference to mark the state-owned telco's 25th anniversary.

Sunday stated that, in addition to the new optic fibre deployment, Camtel is committed to expanding its network coverage, catalogue of products and services, and service quality.

“We understand the concerns, the expectations, the frustration and, sometimes, the anger of users. All of this is legitimate, and it is to Camtel’s credit that we are seeking solutions to address them,” the Camtel boss said.

Camtel manages the national optical fibre backbone and makes this infrastructure available to all other mobile network operators and a wide range of enterprises.
