Telecel Zimbabwe attempts wooing subscribers with cheap SMS bundles

Zimbabwe mobile operator Telecel is trying to get its subscribers to send more text messages.

In an age where internet instant messaging services such as WhatsApp are killing off the SMS across the globe, Telecel Zimbabwe has introduced a promotion allowing pre-paid subscribers to purchase text message bundles in bulk.

The new bundles on offer include 25 text messages valid for one day at a cost of 20 cents. The second bundle includes a $1 bundle that allows the subscriber to send 250 SMSs over a period of seven days.

Meanwhile, the third bundle involves a $3 price tag that enables the subscriber to send 400 SMSs over a period of 30 days.

The promotion is planned to run until December 31.

“For those who enjoy sending text messages, the savings realised from purchasing any of the Telecel SMS bundles are significant,” Telecel marketing director Octivius Kahiya said in a statement.

Telecel explains that the biggest saving is set to be with its $3bundle.

The standard rate would allow 33 text messages to be sent for $3 while the $3 SMS bundle allows 400 messages to be sent. It is valid for 30 days, according to Telecel.
