7,000 Nigerian women join tech government-funded training
Over 7,000 Nigerian Women Tech Founders registered to participate in the government-led training initiative, which was co-organised by the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA).
This was stated by the director-General of NITDA at the launch of the Female Tech Founders Training programme at the National Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics in Abuja.
Inuwa, who was represented at the occasion by Amina Magaji, the interim director of digital literacy and capacity development at NITDA, said it was heartening that over 7,000 Women Tech Founders had registered to participate in the training programme in less than two weeks.
Magaji stated that the plan, developed in collaboration with NITDA, corresponds with the government's eight pillars for increasing women's engagement in technology innovation, acquisition, and development.
"I am delighted to stand before you today as we embark on a transformative journey," she added.
“In just two weeks, our appeal for Female Founders Training reverberated across our magnificent country, garnering an astounding response of 7,151 applications from all 3G states.
“This overwhelming interest underscores the untapped potential and enthusiasm that exists among our women in the field of technology,"
According to her, the course will aid women in technology by providing a venue for them to network and pool resources to help their firms grow.
Magaji added that the curriculum will go beyond training to focus on how wealth and job possibilities in the technology industry could be developed with the full participation of women technology entrepreneurs in the initiatives.
She highlighted that the agency's aim over the next two weeks will be to uncover and showcase creative tech-based ideas and solutions produced by Nigerian females.
While ensuring support for female-founded tech ventures, Mogaji stated, "We aim to promote and support these female-founded tech ventures, contributing to the closing of gender gaps within the tech ecosystem.
“Furthermore, we are committed to encouraging and supporting female digital job creation, which is an important step towards creating diversity and equality.
