Zesco’s fibre network facilitates communication in Zambia

Zambia's government says the expansion of optic fibre network by the Zambia Electricity Supply Corporation (Zesco) will help bring telecommunication services to all the provinces in the country.

The deputy minister of communications and transport Col. Panji Kaunda said despite Zambia being a landlocked country, it is now respected as a land-linked country whose ICT industry is one of the fastest growing in the region.

Kaunda stated that the southern African country's towns and provinces would soon be connected to the power utility company’s optic fibre network to make communication easier.

Zesco launched the second phase of the project last year following the complete installation of 5,300 kilometres of optic fibre cables on the company’s high voltage power lines.

“The second phase of Zesco’s optic fibre network expansion costing $60 million which the company has embarked on will cover 10 provinces and 46 urban and rural towns in Zambia,” Kaunda said.
