E-ticketing system launched for Mozambique bus commuters

An electronic ticket payment system has been implemented for bus commuters in Mozambique.

The system is specifically geared for Mozambique's municipal bus system, the Expresso da Empresa Municipal de Transportes Públicos de Maputo (EMTPM).

It has been reported that passengers who want to travel with EMTPM busses have to ensure they have their e-tickets on hand to use the system.

The system in turn requires commuters to load a smart card with sufficient credit to pay for their trip.

EMTPM officials have, however, assured commuters that because the billing system is still in its initial phases, passengers can still buy the ticket on the busses.

The first phase of the e-ticket system is planned to apply to routes in Maputo, Matola, Boane and Mozal.
