Vodacom Tanzania announces new MD
Vodacom Tanzania has announced the appointment of Sitholizwe Mdlalose as Managing Director.
A public notice posted on the company’s LinkedIn page and also released on its corporate website, stated that Chairman of the Board of Directors, Judge (Rtd) Thomas B. Mihayo confirmed the appointment.
According to the statement, Mdlalose joins the company from Vodacom South Africa where he was the Finance Director since 2017.
“Sitholizwe has previously held various roles in the Vodacom Group including that of Interim Chief Finance Officer as well as Chief Finance Officer of Vodacom Group’s International Business. Prior to joining Vodacom Group, he worked with Vodafone Group for more than 6 years holding senior roles within the Group. He has more than 19 years of finance, management, and consulting experience, of which 13 have been in telecommunications across both emerging and developed markets. He holds a Bachelors of Accounting Science (BCompt) degree from the University of South Africa. Sitholizwe is a qualified accountant (ACCA) and has completed a Senior Executive Programme Africa at Harvard Business School,” reads an excerpt from the statement.
The company described Mdlalose as established business leader “with a strong personal presence and the ability to lead in global organisations.”
“He brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to this important role, and has an exceptional track record of growing businesses and delivering strategic transformation. His appointment reflects the ambition of the Board of Vodacom Tanzania to grow our position in this important sector and to continue to deliver on Vodacom’s purpose of connecting for a better future,” the company continued.
Hendi resignation
In early August Vodacom Tanzania announced that the then MD, Hisham Hendi, had resigned effective 1 November, after serving in the position for two-and-a-half years.
The company said Hendi will remain within the Vodafone Group of companies, taking a new assignment as commercial lead at Vodafone Spain.
Hendi was officially appointed as Vodacom Tanzania managing director in March 2019. Prior to his appointment, he worked at Vodacom Tanzania as Director of the Consumer Business Unit.
During his period in office as Managing Director, Hendi was instrumental in the historical initial public offering (IPO) in 2017 of Vodacom Tanzania on the Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange (DSE) where Vodacom Tanzania remains the only telecommunications company on the bourse.
Vodacom Tanzania is the country’s largest operator with over 32% market share and close to 16 million customers as of March 2021.
