Harare to get Hypercube technology hub
Zimbabwe may be late to the game but it is finally set to get its very first technology hub.
From Cape Town to Cairo, Africa has witnessed a significant rise in the number of innovation hubs with crowdsourcing website ‘Hubs in Africa’ reporting a total of over 100 such facilities on the continent.
And Zimbabwean city Harare is set to join this growing list with the November launch of its first tech hub called ‘Hypercube’.
Founders of the hub say in a statement that they intend to focus on the ‘four dimensions of technology’: community, co-learning, co-working and co-innovation.
As a result, the facility is expected to have four distinct spaces dedicated to each of these dimensions and also offer a variety of membership options.
Munya Chiura, who is the head of Africa operations for investment firm Grow VC and also one of the Hypercube board of advisors, has explained to ITWeb Africa as to why Zimbabwe is lagging behind other African countries in terms of launching a tech hub.
“Since Zimbabwe has seen some stabalisation with a multi-currency regime in recent years, the timing was right,” Chiura has told ITWeb Africa.
“Zimbabwe has also fallen behind thus making the need for the hub even more critical,” Chiura explained.
Chiura has further told ITWeb Africa that the Hypercube’s official opening and membership is only planned to commence once the facility is operational.
