Zambia health ministry goes digital to enhance service delivery.
Zambia has deployed a digital- initiative SmartCare Pro to enhance healthcare service delivery.
SmartCare Pro is an advanced electronic health records (EHR) information management system and the brainchild of the Smart Zambia Institute, the e-government arm operating in the Presidency.
Smart Zambia has teamed up with the International Health Management (IHM), an organisation working primarily to strengthen systems for public health programmes in Southern Africa.
Francis Hachoombwa, provincial head of ICT at Smart Zambia, said the project will be completed soon, and is a significant step forward digitising healthcare services.
SmartCare Pro is used to digitise patient records, improve data accuracy and enhance communication between healthcare providers.
“It supports real-time data collection, reporting, and analysis, enabling better decision-making and more efficient resource allocation in the health sector,” said Hachoombwa.
The initiative has been rolled out in the northeast region of Muchinga, bordering Malawi and Tanzania.
Smart Zambia has deployed the technology in 41 health facilities across the province, and intends to deploy in eight districts in Muchinga, and eventually nationwide.
