Samsung Electronics Africa has announced that it plans to build a second Engineering Academy in West African nation, Nigeria, following the launch of a similar project in Lagos last month.

Governor Kayode Fayemi and state officials from Ekiti State and Nam Seong-woo, executive vice president of IT Solutions Business at Samsung Electro, entered into a memorandum of understanding to develop the education sector in that state.

The new academy is scheduled to open early next year supplying information technologies to promising students and provide them with the support to secure employment or start their own businesses.

“We will supply Samsung notebook PCs as well as independently-developed educational solutions as part of our continual efforts to help consumers in developing countries enjoy the benefits of cutting-edge information technologies,” said Seong-woo.

Last year, Samsung Electronics signed a contract to supply 100,000 units of the NC 215S, a solar-powered notebook, to an educational institute in Ekiti State.

The notebook can be used for up to one hour when it is recharged for two hours using solar energy.
