Stephen Blewett has been named CEO of MTN Ghana, beginning April 2024, succeeding Selorm Adadevoh, who has been promoted to Group chief commercial officer (GCCO).

Blewett returned to MTN earlier this year as operations executive for markets, having executive responsibility for the smaller West and Central African (WECA) region and broader operations assistance to the senior vice president for markets throughout the entire WECA region.

MTN Group announced changes to its executive committee and market leadership today, with Blewett designated to manage Ghana operations.

Blewett returned to MTN from Digicel, where he was COO, in July 2023. Prior to this, he worked for the Group for seven years as CEO of MTN Benin and subsequently MTN Cameroon.

He presently serves on several boards of the WECA market operating businesses, some of which he chairs.

Other changes include Jens Schulte-Bockum stepping down as GCOO and Group Exco when his fixed-term contract expires on March 31, 2024.

He has spent seven years at MTN and has played a crucial role and made a major contribution to the Group, according to the telco.

According to a statement, MTN Group said: "The company thanks Jens for the vital role he has played in the scaling of our core connectivity business across home, fibre, enterprise and network as a service, in line with Ambition 2025.Jens has recently taken on additional responsibility for the Group's digital services platforms, specifically the Ayoba super app and the API marketplace capabilities Chenosis.

"Jens will continue to serve as a non-executive director on the boards of MTN South Africa, MTN Nigeria and Bayobab."

Adadevoh was also assigned GCOO, effective April 2024, as a result of the adjustments.

Although Adadevoh's new title has been changed "to better align with the group operating model," the company stated that "he will join the Group Exco on the effective date and assume all of Jens' executive responsibilities in an orderly handover and transition process to be carried out over the next few months."

Adadevoh joined MTN in 2018 as CEO of MTN Ghana, and the business says he brings vast experience to his new position.

Prior to becoming CEO of MTN Ghana, Adadevoh worked for the Digicel Group, where he held positions such as CEO, COO, and global director for Mobile Financial Services (MFS).

Prior to that, he held several top positions at Millicom/Tigo in Ghana, including CCO, head of MFS, and Head of Product Innovation.
